Water heater and pipework ready for a drain-down and swap
Heaters · drain-down

What we open

Three trades. One bench. No catalogue padding.

Drain work, burst repair, and water heaters. Copper and PEX as the line demands. Isolation so the rest of the building can live. If you need a full bathroom remodel, that is another contractor — we will still make the wet part safe first.

Drains

Blocked stacks, lazy traps, floor drains that smell.

A kitchen that drains overnight and a riser that stops the third floor are not the same ticket. We start at the access, not at a random tile.

Stacks · traps

Rods for paper and wipes. Jetting when grease has set. Camera when the line is a mystery and we would otherwise open a wall for sport. Shared Hadar stacks often need the shaft, not your U-bend.

We do not sell a “monthly chemical plan.” If roots or a collapse show on camera, you get that sentence in plain English and a price to cut and replace — or a refusal if the line belongs to the building committee.

Bursts

Pinholes, split copper, unions that walked off the thread.

Water leaving the pipe is the emergency. Everything else is sequence: isolate, cut, fit, test, close.

Call-out

Tell us if the cock still turns. We roll with cutters, couplings, and a wet-vac. Evenings by phone; Saturday only if the pipe is open.

Isolate before traffic

In the street line

Building feeds and meter-side leaks are a different permission. We stop the indoor burst first. Outdoor work is quoted when we see the pit, not from the kerb.

Indoor first

BurstChase

Behind plaster

Text-only card. We open the smallest chase that shows the pinhole. We do not replaster the room. We leave the joint testable.

Copper and PEX

The material follows the run, not a fashion.

Copper for heat, visible work, and repairs that must match an old Haifa wall. PEX for new hidden lengths and manifolds that actually balance. Transitions are fittings, not improvisation.

If your building is a mix of galvanised, copper, and a mystery plastic, we name each length before we cut. You will not get a silent swap to the cheapest coil in the van.

Valves

Isolation is a service. A seized cock is a job.

Many Haifa flats still share a riser with a cock nobody has turned since the last paint job. We free it if it will free. We replace it if it will not.

Cocks · unions

Heater unions, washing-machine cocks, roof stand valves that have frozen in the salt air. We do not leave you with a handle that only turns 20 degrees and a story about “it should be fine.”

If isolating your flat kills water for the floor above, we say so before we close the valve. Shared buildings are politics; the pipe still has to shut.

Hands on the pipe

One plumber on a trap. Two when we open a stack or lift a cylinder on stairs. We do not send a “surveyor” who cannot cut.

Prep at HaNamal

Odd lengths get cut at the bench when we know the measure. Live bursts get cut in the wall. Either way the joint is cleaned like it matters.

Heaters in full

Drain, lift, fit, light — then the drip tray.

  • We confirm litres, power or gas, and whether the stand or cupboard will take the new cylinder. Roof work on the Carmel is weather and access, not a five-minute swap.
  • Drain-down is part of the price conversation, not a surprise because “the old one was heavier than it looked.”
  • Unions, pressure-relief, and the tray get named. A new heater on a rusted tray is a leak you paid to install.
  • We do not light a gas appliance we cannot prove is safe. If a gas fitter must follow, we say that before the old cylinder leaves the stand.
